A number of years ago I found myself in a “transition time” and was looking for a job.  I was recruited by a company to be an insurance agent.  I got my license, went through the orientation training … and jumped in.  The promises were great … some people make great money doing this .. lots of potential.

By all measurements, after a little over a year, I had failed miserably.  The compensation is solely commission based, and I felt like I was drowning.  No one could understand, because from all appearances, I had everything it took to be successful… but none of that mattered.

Since then, I’ve done a lot of research on what makes people successful … in any area of life.  Albert Gray said that It boils down to one thing:  Successful people do things that unsuccessful people aren’t willing to do!   in the insurance industry it is calling on people who don’t want to see us and talking to them about something they don’t want to talk about.  I can remember my first week, sitting in the Conference Room, organizing my Sales Notebook … instead of being on the phone trying to get appointments.  Organizing my Notebook was comfortable … calling people who didn’t want to talk to me was uncomfortable!  No one I know is comfortable calling people all day long to get appointments … but that’s the “secret” to success… you consistently do what is uncomfortable!

To be successful in anything, you have to be willing to do things that aren’t easy, aren’t natural, aren’t comfortable.  If you want to be successful in losing weight, you have to make uncomfortable decisions about changing your lifestyle, your eating habits.  If you want to be in better shape physically, you have to make yourself uncomfortable by creating the habit of exercising on a consistent basis.

I’ve researched entrepreneurs and discovered that the successful ones do uncomfortable things on a daily basis.  It is very comfortable going to all kinds of Meet-Ups … but having a conversation with people and asking for a response … every day…that’s not so comfortable.

What about you?  What is it that you’d like to be successful doing, but aren’t?  It really does boil down to that old cliché .. Make it a habit to get out of your comfort zone … every day!

You have an Inner Magnificence … you have inside you everything you need to be incredibly successful in every area of your life … you just have to stop doing what is comfortable and follow through with the uncomfortable.  Again, it was Albert Gray who said that “It is easier to adjust ourselves to the hardships of a poor living than it is to adjust ourselves to the hardships of making a better one.”

Here’s my invitation for today:  Think of one thing that, if you did it on a consistent basis, would make your life better, and do it – in spite of how uncomfortable you might feel.

The extent you do is the extent to which you’ll be able to say, “I feel good about being me!” … and that’s a promise!
